SilkTouch ™ Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is a new technique, which has recently made dramatic improvements in the ability of physicians to improve patient appearance due to the damaging effects of chronic sunlight exposure. Acne and post-surgical scarring can also be improved. Sunlight damage to the skin lead to multiple epidermal abnormalities, such as lentigines (brown spots) and actinic keratoses (scaling, red patches), as well as dermal injuries, manifested by rhytides (wrinkles), skin laxity and telangiectasias. Laser skin resurfacing can improve these abnormalities revealing new skin underneath and stimulating a renewal of the skin's collagen for softer, more silky, smoother appearance.

Recent developments in CO2 laser technology have resulted in modifications which have allowed a superficial ablation of the epidermis and dermis without the risk of deep thermal injury. Skin that has suffered from moderate to severe photo damage, including the deeper lines of the upper lip, and the thinner dermal areas of the periorbital areas (around the eyes), can be resurfaced with the laser.

The SilkTouch ™ Flash Scanner, made by Sharplan Lasers, is used in our office as an outpatient procedure in order to produce a controlled, computer programmed depth. This results in a relatively bloodless, cleaner and neater procedure than the previously available dermabrasion.

Laser Skin Resurfacing can be performed in the office as an outpatient procedure using a local anesthetic with a minimum disruption in the patient's normal schedule. The procedure can also be done under general anesthetic in the hospital setting. The initial redness, which occurs after surgery, fades in a few weeks to a light pink, which is easily camouflaged with cosmetics, generally starting within seven days after surgery. The erythema (redness) usually decreases and disappears completely in one to three months.

Visible Improvement with Renova ®

Dozens of products claim to lessen fine wrinkles and soften skin, but only RENOVA is a prescription cream proven to work — proven to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, fade brown spots, and smooth skin roughness when used as part of a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program.

Actual changes on skin surface

In clinical studies, eight out of ten people using Renova as part of a comprehensive skin care and sun avoidance program showed a noticeable improvement in their skin. The studies lasted 48 weeks, and participants ranged in age from 30 to 50. Individual results may vary.

Unlike cosmetics and over-the-counter wrinkle treatments, Renova doesn't simply exfoliate the surface layer of your skin. It contains tretinoin, a vitamin A derivative, like the naturally occurring one in your body.

TIME LINE FOR IMPROVEMENT

While no one can predict when you will actually start seeing results, here are some signs you can look for:

One to two months
Three to four months
The six-month mark
You may notice a smoother and softer texture to your skin.
Brown spots and freckles begin to fade. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to diminish. Your skin should have a rosier glow.
The maximum benefits of Renova — softer, smoother, more evenly toned skin — should be apparent.
